Rao, the Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 1986 batch Odisha cadre, took charge as per the Department of Personnel and Training.
- Nageshwar Rao again became the interim director of CBI
- Alok Verma was removed from the post on Thursday.
- Rao took over the charge
Alok Verma was removed from the post within 48 hours of recruiting as a CBI Director and handed over the charge to Rao. Significantly, just two days after the Supreme Court was restored, Alok Verma was removed from the post after a marathon meeting on Thursday by a High Power Selection Committee, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Alok Verma was accused of negligence in corruption and duty discharge.
After the Supreme Court order, the decision was taken from 2: 1 in the selection committee’s meeting. Justice AK Sikri Verma, who was present in the panel as a representative of PM Modi and Chief Justice, was in favor of the removal of Verma. At the same time as the third member of the panel, the opposition leader was opposed to the removal of Mallikarjuna Kharge Alok Verma in the Lok Sabha. He also submitted the letter of protest to the committee. The panel found that the CVC had made serious comments on Alok Verma. The panel felt that Alok Verma, the head of the sensitive organization, did not do the same kind of behavior.
