TOKYO: While bringing the capability of the smartphone camera to a new height, Sony has launched the world’s first 48 megapixel sensor on Monday, which will be available in the market from September this year. Hopefully this camera will be used first in Sony’s devices.

The company wrote in a blog post that the Stacked Seamos image sensor ‘IMX 586’ has 48 megapixels and the size of these pixels is 0.8 micron pixels.

The company said, “The high-end smartphone models require high quality cameras in these days. Sony’s new sensor is with 48 effective megapixels, which enables it to pull pictures of beautiful, high-end resolution from the smartphone. . ”

At present, the highest resolution camera sensor is 40 megapixels, which is available in the Havay P20 Pro and Nokia Lumia 1020. Sony’s sensors were used only for Apple phones in the long run.
