New Delhi: The Supreme Court has got four new judges. Justice Hemant Gupta, Justice R. Subhash Reddy, Justice MR Shah and Justice Ajay Rastogi took oath as judge of the Supreme Court. Within a day after the recommendation, the President issued warrants for the appointment of four judges. The High Court’s four Chief Justice R. Subhash Reddy, Justice Hemant Gupta, Justice MR Shah and Justice Ajay Rastogi have been made judges of the Supreme Court.

In the Supreme Court, 31 posts of judges are approved. Now the number of judges in the Supreme Court is 28. On October 30, the five judges’ Collegium in the Supreme Court had approved the appointment of four new judges and then on October 31 the recommendation was sent to the Central Government.

The Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court Subhash Reddy, Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court Justice Hemant Gupta, Patna High Court Chief Justice MR Shah and Chief Justice of Tripura High Court Ajay Rastogi were promoted with unanimous recommendation.

In the Supreme Court, the seats of two judges are vacant by the end of this year. Justices Kurien Joseph and Justice MB Lokur are retiring in December. Apart from this, Justice AK Sikri will retire in March next year. Earlier, in August the same month, Justice Indira Banerjee, Justice Vinit Saran and Justice KM Joseph were appointed in the Supreme Court.

This is the first case of appointment of Supreme Court judges within 48 hours of the recommendation. New judges will swear on Friday. The court of CJI Ranjan Gogoi, Justice Madan B Lokur, Justice Kurien Joseph, Justice AK Sikri and Justice SA Bobde had recommended them.
